Students using assistive technology require materials in digital format. Faculty can distribute instructional materials electronically by sending the materials as attachments on an email or by posting the materials on an accessible web site, such as the Website Builder ( HYPERLINK "http://www.sjsu.edu/webservices/services/spartanwizard/contact_form.html" http://www.sjsu.edu/webservices/services/spartanwizard/contact_form.html  ) or a WebCT (Campus Edition 6) shell ( HYPERLINK "http://online.sjsu.edu/forms/ce6practiceshellrequest.htm" http://online.sjsu.edu/forms/ce6practiceshellrequest.htm). Provide course materials in editable format so that assistive technology can be utilized. Articles that have been scanned are not accessible unless optical character recognition software is used. Trained staff in the Center for Faculty Development Lab (IRC 202) are available to assist faculty and staff in the use of the scanners and optical character recognition software from 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday. Write a description for images used in documents. Screen reader software cannot recognize image only data.
