( Jim motioned that the minutes of January 25, 2005 be approved; Tim seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved 6-Yes/0-No. Old Business General Studies Department Split. Prior to this meeting, Tom sent an email to the Academic Senate Executive Committee stating that the Curriculum Committee recommended approval of the General Studies Department split into two departments. Tim informed the Committee that the new name of one of the departments will be Global and Maritime Studies. Old Business CCR No. 10/04-02 MGT 350 Transnational Management, 10/04-03 MGT 450 International Human Resource Management, and 10/04-04 MGT 455 Cross-Cultural Negotiation. Tom informed the Committee that all three courses were approved by the VPAA on January 27, 2005. Marine Transportation Curriculum Update. Tuuli presented the updated Marine Transportation curriculum for the Classes of 2008 and 2009. Several current courses have been renumbered, a unit was added to MGT 310 Port and Terminal Management so that operational logistics could be included, and HUM 400 was designated for the new Ethics class. All the new courses will eventually be brought to the Curriculum Committee for approval. The total units for the Marine Transportation major will continue to be 159. Jim motioned for approval of the new MT curriculum; Larry seconded the motion. The unanimous vote was 6-Yes/0-No. CCR No. 02/05-01 Minor in QMED. After reviewing the new QMED minor proposal for Marine Transportation students, the Curriculum Committee decided that the minor should also be open to Business and Global Studies students although there are extra prerequisites they would have to complete. Upon completion of the minor, only Marine Transportation students would have the option to take the USCG QMED exams to receive a QMED endorsement. Pat Hollister motioned for approval of the QMED minor; Larry seconded the motion. The unanimous vote was 6-Yes/0-No. Revised Marine Transportation Catalog Descriptions. Jim motioned that the MT catalog descriptions be approved; Larry seconded the motion. The unanimous vote was 6-Yes/0-No. CCR No. 02/05-03 HIS 315 World Maritime History, 02/05-04 GMA 300 US Foreign Policy, 02/05-05 GMA 400 Maritime Security. Larry motioned that these three new courses be implemented into the Global Studies curriculum; Pat Hollister seconded the motion. The unanimous vote was 6-Yes/0-No. CCR No. 02/05-02 EGL 220 Critical Thinking. Donna proposed that starting in Fall 2005, students could choose to take either EGL 200 Introduction to English Literature or this new course, EGL 220 Critical Thinking. Two sections of each course would be offered every semester. Steve informed the Committee that the department chairs need to be informed about this course choice because the curriculum sheets will need to be modified. Tim motioned for approval of EGL 220 Critical Thinking; Larry seconded the motion. The unanimous vote was 6-Yes/0-No. The Committee approved the course as presented, with the expectation that Donna will present the proposal to the chairs. Steve informed the Curriculum Committee that remedial courses will now only be offered through Continuing Education. Students should arrive as freshmen at CMA ready to start MTH 100 College Algebra and Trigonometry and EGL 100 English Composition. If not, they must take remedial courses through a community college or CME.
