(Vallejo, California – February 15, 2016) – Cal Maritime President Tom Cropper has appointed Barend (Piet) Van Os to the ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ University Alumni Council Board. Members of the board work as a representative voice of the CSU's three million alumni and play an active role in helping to shape CSU policy and participate in strategic decision-making.

Piet Van Os graduated from Cal Maritime in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation. Van Os grew up in San Diego and was introduced to boating by his family before he could walk. During his senior year at Cal Maritime, he was selected to be part of Disney's big-screen documentary, Morning Light, which told the story of the youngest team to race the Transpac sailboat race from Los Angeles to Hawaii.

After graduation, Van Os worked offshore as the 2nd officer on several state-of-the-art dynamic positioning ships. In 2013, he accepted an offer to become the guest logistics and VIP fleet manager for the 34th America's Cup in San Francisco. Since then, he has managed several fleets of private yachts and is currently the director of operations at Hornblower Cruises and Events.

Appointment to the board carries a minimum two year term, and there are no term limits for alumni volunteers.

Founded as California Nautical School in 1929, Cal Maritime joined the CSU system in 1995.
