On Thursday, April 21, Cal Maritime will celebrate Earth Day 2022 on the Quad (or Morrow Cove due to anticipated rain) from 11AM 鈥� 2PM. All members of the campus community have been invited to attend, and private companies and public organizations with a focus on energy, water, clean transportation, waste management and other sustainability areas will be on hand. The Earth Day celebration is also part of a weeklong series of events around sustainability. 

鈥淥ur annual Earth Day celebration is a great opportunity for us to highlight all the efforts toward sustainability already underway on campus,鈥� says Energy and Sustainability Director Sheikh Nayeem. 鈥淲e have a series of ongoing projects designed to transition us to clean energy by 2029 as well as other efforts to 鈥済reen our campus,鈥� he shared. 

Academically the campus offers ten sustainability courses, eight of them at the focus-level, and two at the inclusive-level including Environmental Law, Environmental Ethics, Marine Biology, Environmental Policies, Ocean Environmental Management, Citizens Environmental Sciences, Polar Politics, Ocean Politics, Comparative Maritime Policies, and Energy Systems Design. 

In addition, the campus has an active Energy & Sustainability Committee consisting of faculty, staff, and students. Students are encouraged to consider energy, water,鈥痑nd other sustainability related projects for their class projects as well as in their daily lives on campus.

  • Engineered Marine Hydrokinetic Sustainability Platform

  • Zero-Global Warming Potential Heat Pumps  
  • Energy and Sustainability components of the Mayo Hall remodel
