Today we were met with smooth seas and humid air. The heat is slowly rising in the ship due to the water temperatures. As we cut through the water some flying fish can be seen leaping from our wake.
Up in the green deck cadets were busy learning how to sew canvas sea bags. This process is very time consuming and depending on how much dedication they put into it, they will have pieces that they will carry with them for a long time.
Out on deck some cadets were seen inspecting the Jacobs ladders. These inspections are to see if they are still serviceable and can be used safely. These ladders can be deployed for various reasons, being for abandonment of the vessel in an emergency, to help assist people climb out of the water, or to help a pilot come aboard prior to entry into a port.
As we sail through the night we look forward to what lays ahead, the cadets are talking about what they plan on doing once we get into Honolulu.
