Today there was a lot going on out on deck as well as below deck. Some cadets were busy in the classrooms learning about their SCBAs and how to maintain and use them, while others were in the Power Lab learning the skills they need for the engine room.
Some of the deck cadets were on the 04 deck near the bridge taking an inventory of the pyrotechnics that we have available. This is to separate the expired and the in date items and to know what we have on board and what we need to restock. The pyro is important to have in the event we have to signal in the event of an emergency. Even though outdated pyro may still work, there is a chance that it could not work as effectively.
Some of the freshman deck cadets were in the classroom learning about the proper use of SCBAs and some of the benefits and drawbacks of them. While learning about these units they will also have to learn how to fill the SCBA bottle and dawn the firefighting gear. All of the gear will weigh about 60-70lbs at the end.

Today is also Chief Mate Ryals Birthday, some of the staff filled her desk with balloons. By filled I mean filled, the desk, chair, and everything on her desk were masked by balloons. Happy Birthday C/M!
We are met with more rolls on the way home, they are more consistent which makes it a little easier to walk. The weather has so far been clear, we might expect some rain in a day or two. A lot of those on board are preparing for the journey to be over. Even though it might only be ten days away, for some it may seem like an eternity.
