TSGB Cruise 2023, Day 20 - we officially crossed into the Southern Hemisphere around 12:00 pm today! All aboard were excited to reach this milestone of our journey, as this was a first for many of us. We will set our clocks back one more hour on May 30th, and then jump a day ahead on the night of the 31st, skipping June 1st. From that point forward, we will be in the same time zone as Samoa.

Crossing the equator!

Otherwise, it has been a relaxing Sunday aboard the TS Golden Bear. There was some excitement last night, as the ship was contacted by JRC Honolulu via satellite phone and was asked to check on a nearby sailing vessel that had lost satellite communication. The cadets on watch responded with the guidance of the Licensed Watch Officers, and the TSGB diverted course and was able to make contact with the sailing vessel. Once the sailing vessel confirmed that they were safe and that no assistance was required, the TSGB resumed course and we continued on our voyage.

Special thanks to the cadets who responded: CWO Bridget Brumm, CTO Madeline Schmid, BTM Conner Rice, Bow Lookout Elle Hamilton, Messenger Mik Harris, Helmsman Chance Jacobson, Security Officers Evita Adriano, Andrew Jordan, and Nate Kruhm, and a big thank you to Licensed Watch Officers Mike Thomsen and Carlton Bartlett for their guidance and expertise. Great job, everyone!

Check back often and follow the voyage with our blog series that gives the latest news from Summer Cruise! The TSGB will travel to Los Angeles, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Apia, Samoa, Hilo, Hawaii, and Astoria, Oregon prior to returning to Vallejo on July 7.

Stay tuned for updates to the Follow the Voyage blog.
