After a quick 24 hours in Long Beach to bunker and get our propeller cleaned, the Training Ship Golden Bear departed right on schedule at 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 12th - southbound to Cabo San Lucas, MX.

Weather is getting warmer - a little overcast but not much wind.

One of the main tasks cadets will do upon departure from a port, especially when we are going from a domestic to foreign port, is washing down the anchor chain as you can see here.

Once the anchor is pulled, cadets will wash it off before it is stowed away in the chain locker. This is done for two main reasons: to prevent any transmittal of invasive species, and to clean off the sea water and mud to prevent corrosion.
