Recycling & Solid Waste
Waste Diversion & Recycling Program
-
Larger Landfill Containers: Offices will soon have larger black landfill waste containers, reducing the need to place landfill items in recycling bins. Black bags will be for landfill waste and clear bags for recyclables.
-
Single-Stream Recycling: Many white dumpsters around campus will transition to single-stream recycling, allowing all recyclables to be collected together. These bins will be clearly labeled with recycling pictograms.
-
Elimination of Household Totes: The blue totes around campus will be phased out, with additional single-stream dumpsters added in key areas like Maritime North and student housing.
-
Composting: For now, compostable materials should be placed in landfill containers. We currently handle composting in the Dining Center and for campus landscaping. Future individual compost collection is a goal.
- Ongoing Training: Recology鈥檚 Zero Waste Specialists will offer training to help with proper waste segregation, especially in residential areas.
Disposal of Bulky Items

- Submit a Work Order: If you need to dispose of bulky items, submit a work order to help us manage the process efficiently.
- Provide Item Details: Include a brief description and location of the items.
Note that removal of bulky items may incur charges, and you will be notified beforehand.
