Navigating Leadership

Welcome to the Maritime Outdoor Leadership Program at Cal Maritime!
A core component of the Edwards Leadership Development Program (ELDP).

About the Program

The Maritime Outdoor Leadership Program (MOLP) is designed to prepare student leaders for Maritime-Wild, a wilderness-based pre-orientation program. This program helps incoming students build relationships, foster a sense of belonging, and familiarize themselves with campus resources before stepping foot in the classroom. Our leaders receive training in essential outdoor skills such as navigation, decision-making, group management, risk management, and wilderness first aid. Throughout the year, they serve as peer mentors, conducting workshops and leading trips to stunning locations like Yosemite National Park, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Mt. Diablo. The skills and experiences gained are valuable for both the maritime industry and everyday life.

Our Mission

The mission of the Maritime Outdoor Leadership Program is to bridge the campus leadership model from the classrooms and the Corps of Cadets leadership progression to all students. We aim to provide an additional platform for practicing leadership skills beyond the Training Ship Golden Bear and International Experience. Our program emphasizes a "we are all crew, no passengers" mentality, meaning that everyone has a role and contributes to the success of the team. This approach ensures that student leaders gain a plethora of leadership skills and benefits. By embodying professionalism and customer service, they represent the Cal Maritime community with pride and excellence.

What We Offer
  • Leadership Training: Comprehensive training in outdoor skills and leadership development.
  • Peer Mentorship: Opportunities to mentor peers and offer workshops to the Cal Maritime community.
  • Outdoor Trips: Lead and participate in trips to beautiful natural locations, enhancing both leadership and outdoor skills.
  • Community Building: Foster strong, supportive relationships within teams and the broader maritime community.
  • Maritime-Wild: Pre-orientation Wilderness Expedition that helps incoming students build relationships and learn about campus resources.
