Dr. Dinesh Pinisetty, Dean of the School of Engineering

Dinesh Pinisetty

Welcome to the School of Engineering at ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ (Cal Maritime)! Placed within a student-centered public university, the School of Engineering provides you with a community of people with an unflappable focus on providing world class education and hands-on training through labs, simulator training, student projects, summer cruises, summer internships and student competitions. On our small residential campus students have access to faculty that may not be possible at other colleges. This accessibility, combined with dedicated and enthusiastic faculty bearing rich industrial and academic experience, enables our school to graduate the finest engineers who are bound to make technological contributions in the industry for a better future.

With a goal to provide balanced and holistic education and create ‘Future Engineering Leaders’, we are committed to developing well-rounded engineers by providing ample leadership opportunities that go beyond the academic curriculum. Our students’ leadership and ingenuity are evidenced by our continued success at US Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition. Programs such as SAE Baja equip our cadets with skills that prepare them to be profession ready.

All engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), and our licensing programs are fully compliant with the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) established by the United States Coast Guard (USCG). These and other quality programs contribute to Cal Maritime’s high rankings by the US News, Washington Monthly, Money.com, and Grad Reports in various categories.

The School of Engineering’s strong collaboration with industry partners ensures relevancy of the curriculum offered within our programs and puts graduates in a highly competitive position to take on rewarding careers. Due to the exceptional engineering programs that we offer and strong faculty connections with industry, the job placement rate of our students is high (> 90%). Our graduates have been employed by companies such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tesla, Oracle, Genentech, Kaiser Permanente, Maersk, Port of Oakland, Port of Long Beach, Port of LA, and Matson, to name just a few.

I am very proud of the faculty and staff who make up the School of Engineering, and I am very honored to serve as the Dean of the School of Engineering. Our vision is to establish ourselves as a long-term top-notch engineering school, and I am looking forward to working with faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry, and community partners to realize this vision. If you are a prospective student or parent, I invite you to be a part of our vision and take full advantage of all that awaits in our exceptional program.

Regards,
