Heat Illness Prevention Program
CSU Maritime Academy maintains a Heat Illness Prevention Program, as required by 8 CCR, Section 3395, for outside and industrial employee working conditions, and 8CCR, Section 3396 for indoor employee working conditions.
Periodic training is provided and reminders are sent to the campus when excessive heat is forecasted.

The basic requirements related to indoor heat are triggered when the temperature reaches or exceeds 87° degrees Fahrenheit (82° F if the employee is required to wear restrictive clothing that limits heat removal, such as personal protective clothing (PPE)).
The following are the key points:
- Allow cool down breaks as needed and for a minimum of 5 minutes in the break area. The cool down area must be no more than 82 degrees.
- Ensure potable drinking water is accessible
- Keep a record of indoor temperatures for two years
- Train employees
